Number Talks in the Middle School Classroom
Limited Capacity filling up

Number Talks can be a fun and engaging technique for developing students’ number fluency and flexible thinking in the classroom, while cultivating mathematical mindsets.

In this introduction to Number Talks, you'll experience a Number Talk as a learner and have an opportunity to prepare for a Number Talk by doing the mathematics using multiple strategies, anticipating student misconceptions, and thinking about the mathematical connections across strategies, i.e., place value connections, use of base ten structure, associative property, commutative property, distributive property, and identity property. You'll also explore research results from teachers who have begun to implement Number Talks in their classroom.
