Developing Risk Takers: Teaching Students to Give It a Go

Students must leave their comfort zones to make conjectures, embrace challenges, persevere, and learn from mistakes. In this session, we will go past posters and messages and focus on actions. 
What are specific teaching moves that promote risk taking and teach mathematical courage? Participants will analyze discourse, student work, video, and teachers' language from middle-school classrooms where teachers are getting results, and begin adapting specific strategies for their own teaching contexts.
