Limited Capacity filling up

The "Same or Different" discourse prompt, brought to prominence by Brian Bushart, has gained popularity as a means for students to explore visual models of foundational concepts. In this prompt, two images or methods are presented and students are asked simply, "What is different?" and "What is the same?"
This session moves the Same/Different structure into math strategies as students make connections between two presented methods, and guides teachers to the process of designing their own. Grab a seat with us, and you'll:
  • Take part in a model Same/Different activity using the NCTM's 5 Practices for Orchestrating Mathematical Discourse;
  • See and explore sample prompts;
  • Examine the design process for creating a prompt;
  • Draft/create original prompts for use in an upcoming lesson.
Hope to see you there!
